Sunday, our 25th homecoming, was a great day. We got too see many of our friends and family who have moved away. The covered dish "dinner on the grounds" was great. There was more than enough food. There was even enough desserts for fellowship after Sunday night's fireside chat. Of course, it was good to have Frank Walton with us to lead the singing.
Saturday was a tremendous day. It started with several people "door knocking" and inviting people to worship with us on Sunday. That night we had "Trunk 'N Treat" for the young and not so young. It was a good night with all the children, costumes, chili, candy and hay rides.
We have been "humbled" by what God is doing at Green Ridge.
Humility In Daily Life
When we look at the teaching of the Word of God, we see that Christians need to have humility. We notice the teaching of Paul, for example: To the Romans, he writes, "In honor preferring one another ... set not your mind on high things, but condescend to those that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceit."
To the Corinthians, he says, " ... there is no love without humility as its root. It vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, seeketh not its own, is not provoked."
To the Galatians the message was through love be servants one of another.
To the Ephesians, he instructed, "Therefore walk with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering forbearing one another in love."
To the Philippians, Paul says, " Doing nothing through faction or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind, each counting others better than himself. Have the mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus."
To the Colossians, he proclaimed, " Put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another and forgiving each other even as the Lord forgave you."
The humble man feels no jealousy or envy. He can praise God when others are preferred and blessed before himself. He can hear others praised, and himself forgotten, because in God's presence he has learned to say with Paul, "I am nothing."
