Do you think the early church had a balanced budget?

It seems, to me, they were always short of money, looking for ways to help others.

I wonder, is there one church in the New Testament that balanced the books?

Bring Forth Fruits

Jesus said, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain." (John 15:16)  The fruit of a Christian is other Christians. Proverbs 11:30 tells us, "The fruit of a righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise."  Paul says in Romans 1:13, "Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come to you ... that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles."

Every Christian is to be a soul winner.  Soul winning is not a gift - it is a command.  You can read the gifts of the Spirit in Romans 12 or in 1 Corinthians 12, but soul winning is not listed among them.  Soul winning is not a request - it is a responsibility.  Soul winning is not a choice, it is commanded.  Soul winning is not an option - it is an obligation.  The only alternative to soul winning is disobedience to a clear command in scripture.  The great commission is to "Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

Today we are facing an unfinished task.  The work is still far from finished, because billions are still unsaved.  I heard a preacher say a while back that he doubted if 5% of the members of his congregation had ever led a soul to Christ.  To get the job done, we must get God's concept of the soul's worth.  Read Mark 8:36-37.

I read somewhere that the United States government spent forth million dollars in search of a pilot.  Just think of it, forth million dollars to find one Air Force pilot!  Now, I'm not against that - I'm sure the pilot's family felt he was worth every penny of it.  If it were my son who was lost, I would gladly spend forth million dollars to find him, if I had it.  Could we not spend at least that much in search of lost souls?  Oh, the value of a soul!  Brethren, think on it ....
